As a guest delegate from ICCS, Dr Werner Haussmann took part in the meeting of the European Christian Environmental Network (ECEN) in Roskilde (Denmark) from 31.08-03.09.23 and was also able to address the 80 delegates with a greeting in which he emphasized the importance of education – especially religious education – for efforts to promote sustainability and climate protection.
The representatives of various churches from 25 countries, including Belarus and Ukraine, addressed the position paper “Every Part of Creation matters” of the Conference of European Churches, both in plenary presentations and discussions, as well as in thematic workshops and when visiting sustainable projects with a Christian background in Roskilde.
In the end, it was agreed that through education for a sustainable future for all generations inside and outside the church there can be hope for a better future. At the same time, there was a call for the churches to take an even stronger stand in favour of the integrity of creation and climate justice, to which eco-theology can make an important contribution.
